Kevin Turner, Restorative Wellness Center

I'm the kind of guy who knows how to work really hard. I’m also entrepreneurially minded, so I wanted to start my own business.

Launching my chiropractic practice was great. I was creating a job for myself, but I really wanted to create a business as well. I knew that my chiropractic schooling, training, and skills were in place and solid, but I was not business oriented. I didn't have any business education - no business training whatsoever! I had exactly one three credit course in chiropractic school on business. I only knew enough to know that I didn't know anything at all. It’s true that I knew how to work hard, but I was sure I could work smarter if I could implement business tactics that promoted progress and growth. I just needed a mentor.

I first heard about Strategic Collisions International (SCI) from a couple of mutual connections. Multiple references from people I trusted gave me the confidence to reach out, and I started meeting with John from SCI on a monthly basis. John created what was, in essence, a curriculum - a crash course on business practices. He gave me assignments covering topics that every business owner should understand, then we met monthly to go through the units. We discussed the material and talked about how to apply this knowledge to my situation and my business. Ultimately, we worked together to help me learn how to reach my goals through good business processes.

Working with SCI, I felt that I was becoming empowered to run my business successfully. I began to have a better handle on why the various business components were important, and how I could implement them with my team. I started to see the tangible next steps, how to move forward, and that was great.

One of the things that SCI did was to help me establish my five-year goals. They seemed audacious to me at the time! John at SCI pressed me to think a little bit bigger, then to think a little bit bigger again. I felt like I was already shooting for the moon. I wondered if it was too much, but I trusted him and took another step. He helped me to see what it would look like to take several more steps. Suffice it to say, we met those five-year goals - literally every single one of them - in about three and a half years.

The best part of my partnership with SCI was finding a trustworthy mentor who understood where I was in my journey. John was able to help me brainstorm and map out my ultimate goals. Then we established the incremental and practical steps that were important to achieve along the way, marking out the path to success. The routine and accountability offered by SCI were also key to my progress.

Something that was really important to me and stands out in my partnership with SCI is their commitment to ethics in economics. They truly stand for good ethics in business and that really resonated with me. I don’t want fiscal goals that come at the expense of people - my clients. I was grateful to work with a company like that, because doing the right thing is important to me in life and in business.

John at SCI has a tremendous amount of knowledge across the various facets of business and entrepreneurship. I’m proof that he can help somebody who truly knows nothing, but is willing and able to roll up their sleeves and do some work. Whether the industry is healthcare or restaurants or retail, the guidelines are the same. He can offer help and support with those basic structural principles that are critical for creating a solid business. SCI offers mentorship and guidance that has benefitted me so much and has established a strong foundation for the future of my business.
